The Blue Lagoon (Bláa lónið) is a beautiful geothermal water/spa in southwestern part of Iceland. The spa is located in a lava field. The water is a milky blue shade due to its high silica content. The silica forms soft white mud on the bottom of the lake which is used and sold as a mud mask and all the people who go in the water can try it. The water is also rich in salts and algae. The water temperature in the bathing and swimming area of the lagoon averages 37–39 °C (99–102 °F). The lagoon is man-made and renews every 2 days.
